Anoushka Shankar

Anoushka Shankar is a British-American sitarist and musician. She was the first and the first woman to be awarded the British House of Commons Shield she has had 9 Grammy Awards nominations and was the first artist of Indian origin to play live and to act as a host at the award ceremony. Anoushka is a new star on the rise in Indian sitar. She is a student as well as sister of Ravi Shankar. She spent her childhood bouncing around from London and New Delhi. The first time she performed was on stage in New Delhi at the tender 13 years old. Later she moved into Encinitas CA where she graduated from High School with honours in 1999. Anouskha is an aspiring young lady, nevertheless, she has an remarkable career in the field of music and performance. She performs regularly together with her dad, and has been doing so for quite a number of years. Her debut single album Anourag in 1998. Her Grammy-nominated Live At Carnegie Hall album was released in 2002. She has performed at most important venues across the world. Anoushka isn't only a singer. Bapi The Love of My Live is her 2002 book, which is a tribute to Ravi Shankar. Also, in films in 2003 she played the role in the film Dance Like a Man where she is the role of a teenage Bharat Natyam performer. Anoushka Shakar's professional career is only going to continue to expand and develop. We can look at seeing lots of interesting things coming from her. Anoushka Shankar was born and raised in England and spent the majority of her youth living between London and Delhi after which she moved to California where she attended the high school. She began learning music when she was nine years old and played the sitar in celebration of the 75th anniversary the birth of her father in Delhi four years later. Alongside her father, they toured around the globe, Anoushka racked up a wealth of experiences appearing in Carnegie Hall while still in her teens, performing in Peter Gabriel's WOMAD festival as well as performing with George Harrison. She was the youngest and only female to receive the House of Commons Shield awarded by the British Parliament to recognize her musicianship and talent as a leading musician of in the Asian Arts.
